National Mission Work Opportunities

Hurricane Katrina Recovery     August 29, 2010 represents the 5-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina striking the Gulf Coast.  It was and still is very encouraging to see so many responding to this huge disaster.  Consider returning to New Orleans area, or if you haven't gone yet, make this your first trip!  Visit projecthomecoming.net to see how you can still play an important role in bringing home many displaced individuals and families.

Laughlin Memorial Chapel, Wheeling, WV Community Service Missions   The Presbytery of Charlotte is encouraged to join in volunteer opportunities through the community service work initiatives underway at the Laughlin Memorial Chapel in Wheeling, WV. Although we continue efforts in after-school child care & development, supplemental nutrition programs and the rehabilitation of dilapidated housing, among others, the need seems ever greater. The organization is being stretched further and further as we attempt to meet the needs of a recession-hit rust belt town. In terms of resources, Laughlin is well prepared for its mission.  However, our access to sufficient volunteer personnel continues to be a problem as we tackle time-intensive projects (particularly housing rehab).
