FORM A PARTNERSHIP WITH YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL!  F.A.S.T. has compiled a list for community-school partnership contacts in Anson, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Richmond, Stanly, and Union Counties.  Find out how you can help your local schools.
 
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BOBCATS EDUCATIONAL EVENT: On Friday, October 23, 2009 the Charlotte Bobcats will host the 6th annual Cool School Field Trip at Time Warner Cable Arena, a field trip designed to reward students who excel in school by demonstrating outstanding performance, character and service in the classroom.  This year, students in grades 6-8 have been invited to attend the preseason game between the Bobcats and the Memphis Grizzlies and participate in the curriculum-based activities planned throughout the morning. To make this event a success, fifty volunteer are needed between 7am-1pm. Please contact Ana Brown at 980-343-0474 or ana.brown@cms.k12.nc.us if you are able to volunteer.
 
On Saturday, October 24, Parent University in partnership with Duke Energy will hold a S.T.E.M. Middle School Career Fair at Vance High School from 8:30 a.m.-noon.  Details below:

Audience: CMS Middle School Students and their Parents 
Cost:Free for participants (middle school students and parents)
Presented by: Duke Energy in partnership with Parent University and CMS
Target Audience:Parents looking to enhance skills for 21st century and students interested in STEM careers.  
Program:
In partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and other area companies, Duke Energy will host an interactive career fair for middle school students and parents interested in learning more about the types of careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.). Staff from CMS will speak with parents and students about the specific courses students should take to pursue careers in these fields. Following the formal program, students will have the unique opportunity to speak and meet with representatives from various companies and participate in hands-on activities exploring products and services.
 
Agenda:
8:30-8:45: Continental breakfast and registration
9:00-9:10: Welcome and kick off
9:10-9:40: CMS staff members speak with parents and students about the specific courses students should take to pursue careers in these fields.
9:45-Noon: Students and parents visit various company tables; parents also have opportunity to speak with local colleges
