HUNGER ACTION WORK GROUP

  What is Hearts for Hunger?

Hearts for Hunger, a fund created by the Presbytery of Charlotte’s Hunger Action Work Group, provides domestic and international hunger relief grants to mission programs of our Presbytery of Charlotte churches.

In response to a need identified by many of our churches, Hearts for Hunger provides funding for mission programs outside the bounds of our presbytery, serving as a compliment to the 5 Cents-A-Meal program which meets local hunger relief needs.

  Promoting Hearts for Hunger

We are HUNGRY for your HELP!

Consider what your church can do to contribute:
  • Ask your church to make a one time offering to help get this program off the ground.
  • Designate several Sundays to receive the Hearts for Hunger offering. (Be mindful that funding is scheduled for April and November, so please schedule accordingly.)
  • Leave offering baskets on tables at church dinners to remind people of those who remain hungry throughout the rest of the country, and the world.
  • Organize groups of volunteers to do household projects or yard work around the neighborhood, and as payment, recipients of such services may make donations to Hearts for Hunger.
The possibilities are endless!

Use
this bulletin insert to promote Hearts for Hunger in your church, and consider posting this flyer on your bulletin board.

FAQ's

Who can apply for Hearts for Hunger funds?
Any church within the Presbytery of Charlotte that has a hunger relief mission project outside the bounds of the Presbytery.

Our church supports a hunger project outside of this presbytery, but another church also supports the same project.  Can we just submit one application?
Yes, you can submit one application from multiple churches.

Can we still apply for funds if our church supports a hunger relief program inside the bounds of the Presbytery of Charlotte?
Instead of applying for Hearts for Hunger funds, you could apply for 5 Cents-A-Meal funds.  Visit the
5 Cents-A-Meal webpage for more information and an application.

When are funds dispersed?
Funds are dispersed in April and November.

What is the criteria for the amount that we can apply for?
You can apply for any amount needed based on the financial information you provide (see application for financial documents required), but there is no assurance that you will be able to get as much as you request.  Also, the funds given by the congregation(s) must at least match the amount requested.
