HUNGER ACTION WORK GROUP
One Great Hour of Sharing

How many things can you do in a given week that will create lasting change around the world?

Like the vast majority of Presbyterian congregations, your congregation probably receives One Great Hour of Sharing, but do your members give simply out of habit? This year we encourage you to engage them more deeply in understanding and connecting with the ministries of this offering. Most congregations receive One Great Hour of Sharing on Palm Sunday and/or Easter. If your offering is similarly timed, please take a moment now to help ensure its success this year - start with the resources at the right side of this page.

The mission of One Great Hour of Sharing:

The Presbytery of Charlotte in the past has received funding, and has and will to continue to apply for a portion of the OGHS offering through the three funding areas – Presbyterian Hunger Program, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and Self Development of People by:
  • Responding to economic and natural disasters both with the closing of plants within the Presbytery bounds - meeting needs of our communities; and continue to respond to individuals affected by natural disasters such as Katrina through funding from PDA.
  • Responding to hunger needs of our communities to enable them to minister to families and to fund programs such as delivery of food from various sources to local, domestic and international programs with funding from PHP.
  • Responding to oppressed individuals and communities by providing SDOP grants to allow them to better their lives and the lives of their families, as well as the community in which they live.
