ONE IN CHRIST

The One in Christ Committee seeks to educate people about race relations and improve relationships among different races in our churches and in our communities.

What's New?

Award to Civil Rights Worker:
On May 13, 2008 at Greensboro College, retired pastor Vernon Tyson, who has worked hard for civil rights over the years, will receive the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina Council of Churches
You may recognize the name, as his ministry for reconciliation in the midst of hatred and violence are chronicled in the book Blood Done Sign My Name written by his son Timothy (2006 All Presbytery Reads Book from the One in Christ Committee). The book is being made into a movie.

  All Presbytery Reads 2007

"Every bit of racial progress in America has been fought for, inch by inch.  The reign of God's kingdom, however, comes never by force but voluntarily -- from the heart, not begrudged or demanded.  The mark of reconciliation is not a truce but an embrace.  And we have yet to experience that embrace..."  - from the "All Presbytery Reads" book, More Than Equals.

Last year, the One in Christ Committee selected the book, Blood Done Sign My Name for an All Presbytery Reads selection.  Response from individuals and groups who read this book was very positive, so after much evaluation, the committee chose another book for the 2007 All Presbytery Reads: More Than Equals by Spencer Perkins and Chris Rice.

One in Christ encourages churches use More Than Equals in Sunday School classes and book clubs to help people understand racial issues today in a Christian context.
