WOODLAND AND PAW CREEK CHURCHES
SHARE IN MISSION
Woodland / Paw Creek Reading Program celebrates 5th year after receiving a $5,000 Shared Mission Grant from the Presbytery.
The Woodland/Paw Creek reading program ended our fifth year with a celebration supper in the Paw Creek Christian Fellowship Center. We celebrated another memorable year with our second-grade students, their families, and our volunteers.
We were able to serve all the second-grade students that Paw Creek Elementary identified who could benefit from a boost in their reading skills.
The Presbytery provided a onetime Shared Mission Grant that allowed our two churches to begin the program back in 2021. Since then, the program has been funded by donations from Woodland and Paw Creek. In 2026, the Woodland/Paw Creek Reading Program received the MRC (Ministry Resource Committee) Technology Grant that covered half of the expenses for a Promethean smart board, allowing more teaching flexibility in the classroom.
The program was made possible through a partnership between Paw Creek and Woodland Presbyterian Churches and CMS and Paw Creek Elementary School.
On Sunday, May 24th, Woodland and Paw Creek joined together for the 18th annual Pentecost celebration with a joint service of worship. The Rev. Dennis W. Funderburk, Supply Preacher for Woodland, was the joint service preacher. Special music was provided by the Paw Creek Handchimes Choir and the Woodland Mass Choir. The Sacrament of Holy Communion was celebrated and the congregations enjoyed a covered dish luncheon following worship. Roses were placed at the gravesites of Woodland’s beloved members who are interred at the Paw Creek Graveyard.
